VeriSign Domain Name Industry Brief

In Febuary 2010 VeriSign, the global registry operator for .com and .net, released a brief which reviews the state of the domain name industry through a variety of statistical and analytical research.

Amongst a number of things, the brief showed that at the end of 2009 the industry closed with a base of more than 192 million domain name registrations across all of the
Top Level Domain Names (TLDs), an increase of nearly 15 million domain name registrations since the close of 2008

The number of .com domain names registered has grown to over 80 million over the last 25 years, with the average daily DNS query volume now being more than 52 billion queries per day.
