-19/02/2010
Microsoft's plans to partner with Yahoo has been given the green light by both European and US regulators.
The European Commission ruled that the deal "would not significantly impede effective competition" and the U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement that it believes its decision to approved the partnership will make Bing a better search engine. As a result of this deal, Microsoft would gain access to 3 times as many search queries than it would have on its own, consequently accelerating Bing's automated learning, this will help the search engine return more relevant results.
The deal would mean that Microsoft would provide the search services on Yahoo and the two companies would share the revenue generated through advertising.
The bottom line is that this deal will put Microsoft in a better position to compete with Google.
